LOS ANGELES (AP) — The parents of two teenagers killed in an abandoned Mojave Desert military bunker are suing the federal government claiming negligence for failing to dismantle or otherwise secure the site.

The U.S. District Court suit filed Friday in Los Angeles says the Air Force and Bureau of Land Management knew about the dangerous condition of the property near Barstow and its popularity as a young people partying spot.

Sixteen-year-old Bodhisattva Sherzer-Potter and 18-year-old Christopher Cody Thompson were found dead in the abandoned bunker in January 2008. Prosecutors say three men charged with murder in the case walked the teens to the bunker at gunpoint and killed them.

The Victorville Daily Press says the suit contends federal agencies had a duty to maintain, manage and supervise the site.

I hope they lose his case. Too bad they lost their kids but how do you justify suing the govt for that? It was just the place the crime occured, if the bunker had been dismantled they would have been led somewhere else before they were shot. The government has zero responsibilty for their deaths and really hope they don’t settle. These parents are just out for money from whomever they can get it from. Giving them anything at all sets a bad precedent.

    What vudu said.

what was a 16 year old girl doing with an 18 yr old man? im sure there were signs posted that it was federal land, therefore the 2 victims were breaking into federal property.

I agree with vudu, these frivelous lawsuits make me sick. Reading the headline, i thought the story would be about the teens getting trapped or something along those lines. But they were murdered, how is that anybody but the assailant’s fault? If somebody was murdered on my property, through no fault of mine, am i responsible for the act? No way! Something seems fishy here. Sucks the parents lost their kid, but seriously, a lawsuit?

I agree with vudu, except that it does’nt matter whether or not the area was dismantled or not…the area is an area. period.
the killers are to blame, period.
Just another “Stella Award” in the making

Valerie believes that these kids broke the law on entering , while being forced deserves to be killed Thanks Val for your vote of believeing in justica HA

EXCUSE ME, but this was not a case of the AF or anyone else in the govt. being responsible for these kids deaths. These kids were forced onto that land by their murderes. How does that make the AF responsible? Someone give there parents a reality check. But just another case of someone out for a quick buck. Want it, sue the killers.

Checkout some of the goolge entries on this one. Why was there a 16 year old girl allowed to be at a party that did not end until 4AM in the morning in the first place. Maybe her parents need to be asking why they allowed this. One media report stated that this was not the first time these 2 had been to the area. Parents should have been taking their responsibilities seriously obviously they never did.

Theses teen were taken there at gun point!!!! It’s about time someone stood up to the government and holds them liable for their actions, or lack thereof! Just like the government holds us liable, they need to take responsibility for failing these teens. All my support to these parents. GOOD LUCK! (as for vudu and mnemon, get real and grow up)

  10. Gary says:

Bluetopaz you are one those bleedy hearts you probably go down to the jail and kiss their behinds. saying it’s ok you can kill its a free country you probably give flowers to chesla king’s murder and thank him And then when you get rob one day walking down the street you probably thank him and turn around and take my taxpaying money and sue the government for not watching you 24/7 I feel sorry for you
