Rollover Crash Victim Had Been Shot

MISSION VIEJO (CBS 2) — While administering aid to a victim of a rollover crash on the San Diego (5) freeway Tuesday evening, officials discovered the man had been shot.

Police believe the victim had been shot 10 minutes earlier in San Clemente.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Mission Viejo.

The shooting at Calle Canasta and Calle Campana in San Clemente occurred about 7:30 p.m., said Sgt. Jeff Foster of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

"There are signs of a shooting that occurred in that area," Foster said.

He added that the area is known for gang activity.

"We're treating this as a gang shooting," Foster said.

A white Honda was seen leaving the area, he said.

A few minutes later a Honda was involved in a rollover accident on the northbound freeway at Crown Valley Parkway, near from Mission Hospital. Two occupants were in that car and taken to the hospital. One had been shot, Foster said.
