The bread bowl is a unique menu item. It's tableware, but it's also food. In one episode of "Seinfeld," George Steinbrenner sang the praises of eating soup in a bread bowl, because when you're done, there's nothing in front of you but the table. Orange County has several places that will probably get you singing the praises of the bread bowl.

When you're looking for a bread bowl, there is no better place to look than a bakery, especially a sourdough bakery. At Boudin, you can get any one of five soups (including the soup of the day) in a bread bowl, including a butternut-squash soup garnished with nuts and cranberries. You can also make it a combo with a salad or half sandwich. You'll find that the the bowl is perfect: soft on the inside and crusty enough to stand up to the soup, which is pretty delicious no matter which one you choose.

Let's face it, when you go to Disneyland, you have to go for an entire day to really get your money's worth. That being the case, you'll have to eat at some point. Well, if dinner served in a bread bowl is good, then enjoying that bread bowl at The Happiest Place on Earth is even better. At the Royal Street Veranda, you can take a break to get clam chowder or gumbo in a bread bowl before you head back to the park to enjoy the attractions.

There are a lot of reasons to go to The Salty Dawg: proximity to Anaheim stadiums, attractive waitresses and a good selection of beer, to name a few. The Dawg also has a pretty good kitchen where you can get clam chowder served in a bread bowl. The next time you're headed to a game in Anaheim, stop in and enjoy the food and beverages here. The bread bowl is a special menu item, so it's not available at all times. But even if it's not available, you'll find plenty to love at this place.

The Swinging Door is in a part of Orange County that feels like it's a little overlooked in comparison to the rest of the county. Parking in Old Town Tustin is usually not a hassle like it is in other parts of the county, and right there is The Swinging Door. Like its sister bar, The Salty Dawg, The Swinging Door offers plenty of attractions, including a full bar that you can enjoy while you watch sports or play pool. When you stop in, look for the special menu item: clam chowder or chili in a bread bowl.
