2 Santa Ana Men Arrested In Connection With Fatal Restaurant Shooting

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Two Santa Ana men were in custody Wednesday for allegedly killing a 32-year-old man during a shooting that occurred inside of a restaurant.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department, around 12:47 a.m. on Monday, officers responded to the El Zocalo Restaurant, located in the 300 block of North Tustin Avenue, for report of an unknown trouble call.

When the arrived, authorities pronounced Jose De Jesus Mendoza Marin, of Los Angeles, dead at the scene.

Four other people were transported to hospitals for treatment of injuries sustained in the shooting.

A preliminary investigation revealed a verbal and physical altercation between two separate groups of people began in the men's bathroom.

At some point during the altercation, one suspect fired several rounds from a handgun, which fatally struck Maria and injured three others.

One of the suspects — later identified as 29-year-old Viyey Castaneda — attempted to flee the scene with a handgun, but was subsequently apprehended by security officers and patrons, officials said.

He received injuries while being apprehended, and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment where he remains hospitalized.

Authorities booked 45-year-old Anastacio Castaneda Rios on suspicion of murder.

Detectives said they are looking for another firearm that may have been used during the fight.
