SAN FERNANDO (CBS) — A Chatsworth man has been charged with murder for allegedly beating his 78-year-old father to death with a hammer.
Jun Hyuk Chang, 45, was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in San Fernando Superior Court in connection with his father’s death.
Chang called 911 around noon Sunday and allegedly told officers who arrived at his home in the 21300 block of Candice Place that he had killed his father with a hammer.
Chang’s father, Sun, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his son was taken into custody without incident at approximately 1 p.m., according to Los Angeles police.
Prosecutors are asking that Chang’s bail be set at about $1 million.
If convicted, he faces up to life in prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
