Police: Chatsworth Man Admits To Killing Father Possibly With A Hammer

CHATSWORTH (CBS) — Officials say a Chatsworth man admitted to police Sunday that he fatally struck his father and possibly used a sledgehammer or another type of hammer to commit the crime.

Police went to the home in the 21000 block of Candice Place just after noon.

Authorities tell us the suspect reportedly called 911 to say he had struck his father with the hammer.

LAPD Officer Gregory Baek was quoted by the LA Times. He said police arrived at the property and were met by the suspect. "He told the officers he had killed his father with some kind of hammer," Baek said.

The father was pronounced dead at the scene. The son was taken into custody.

The names of the victim and suspect were held pending notification of next of kin.

No motive was given for the murder.

As of 8 p.m. Sunday police were still waiting for a judge to sign a search warrant giving them complete access to the home.

The coroner had also not removed the body.
