Aside from anniversaries, Valentine's Day has always been one of the most romantic days of the year for couples. There's a lot of pressure to get it right, and a cozy dinner for two is always a good start. There are lots of romantic restaurants in Los Angeles, but only a handful possess that special charm everyone looks for on Valentine's Day. If you haven't made reservations yet, you might want to check out these five V-Day culinary contenders.

The recently opened Charcoal Venice is growing in popularity and reputation, making it a great dinner spot for this special day. Cozy with a casual atmosphere, Charcoal Venice has a stellar menu that will appeal to even the finickiest of dates. The Midnight Margarita and the Chop House Martini are great cocktails to warm things up along with a great selection of wine. While the V-Day specials are sure to be phenomenal, you are pretty much guaranteed a fantastic meal with the chicken wings, calamari and lamb ribs. But then with owner and chef Josiah Citrin and chef Joseph Johnson at the helm, it's hard to have a bad night at Charcoal.

Located inside the exquisite Montage Hotel of Beverly Hills, Scarpetta offers fine Italian cuisine and an unforgettable dining experience. An outstanding prix fixe will be offered, but menu items like apple glazed Berkshire pork chop, grilled branzino and the bucatini may divert you. While Scarpetta is quite expensive you can expect top notch service and the finest of quality. And if your date is of the meat-free persuasion there's a special vegetarian menu.
