One of Mexico's favorite sandwiches is the torta. Served hot or cold, grilled or toasted, the torta is usually named according to its main ingredient. If you live in Los Angeles you've probably had a few of these. If so, you know they are extremely tasty and very filling. However, as with anything the quality can vary. Whether you're looking for a torta de jamón, aguacate, adobada, huevo or the ahogada, check out these places for the best of them all.

Everyone knows the best tortas are packed with meat and Tacos Tumbras a Tomas definitely has tortas packed with meat. Deemed one of the best tortas by pretty much anyone who has ever eaten one there, T3's tortas are so thick and plentiful it's hard to finish one in a single sitting. Choose between the carne asada, birria, pollo or lengua or get a combination and enjoy savory flavors with every bite. Lines get long but move quickly. And, if you're nice, they might not charge for avocado.

Luisitos Torta's And Jugos is a hole-in-the-wall known for their tortas. The basic carnitas, chorizo, steak and turkey tortas will have your mouth watering almost immediately. If you're feeling a little fancy try one of their specialty tortas like the Cuban, the Hawaiian or the Mexican. Each is guaranteed to deliver incredible flavor and satisfaction without a big price tag. Knock them back with fresh juice or smoothie and you'll be set.

For one of the best spots for tortas in the valley, go to Pena's Tacos. They have a wide selection of meats that will melt in your mouth like asada, cabeza, carnitas, suadero, pollo, adobada, tripa and many others to choose from. This family-run business has a pleasant staff and many other delicious items on their menu for relatively cheap. They are closed on Mondays but open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, so you can enjoys something from Pena's for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

El Flamin' Taco is a Koreatown taco truck favorite. From tacos to burritos to empanadas and sopes, the tortas are hands down at the top of the list. The torta Hawaiian is a pile of al pastor, monterey jack, milanesa, egg, ham, salchicha, avocado and pineapple on warm telera bread. The Polish torta is a thick Polish sausage with lettuce, tomato, fresh onions, sour cream and avocado. They only thing that could make them better is a side of carne asada fries.

One of Hollywood's favorite Mexican joints, Guadalupe's Place is as authentic as it is friendly. The staff is helpful and polite and Manuel is quick with a smile. Pair that with exceptional and reasonably priced food, there's no question as to why everyone loves Guadalupe's. The tortas here are hearty and spicy. The chicken, beef, BBQ, carnitas and tongue are of great quality and flavor. What's even better is they are open 7 days a week from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., 11 p.m. on weekends.
