Sapp Coffee Shop may look like a place you'd easily drive by, but don't let that deter you. This is one Thai eatery you can leave completely stuffed for under ten bucks and feel completely satisfied. The stand out menu item is their boat noodle soup. The bold flavor with just enough spice makes Sapp's boat noodle soup a menu favorite. Pair it with a Thai iced coffee and you're good to go. This place is cash only, but don't worry, you won't need a lot of it.

A little larger and definitely cheerier than Sapp, Rodded Restaurant is a neighborhood favorite. With an extensive and appealing menu, the top choice here is the duck. Quarter, half, whole, over steamed rice or in soup, the stewed duck never disappoints. Savory with a hint of sweet, the duck is cooked perfectly and retains texture and flavor. Start out with an order of fresh spring rolls and a Thai iced tea and your day will be complete. Once again, cash only.

One of the best places for authentic Thai food in Los Angeles is Night + Market Song. A sister restaurant to their WeHo locations, the Silverlake location offers a near identical menu. And if you're looking for fantastic rice noodles or khao soi, Night + Market Song is where you'll find it. Choose between the khao soi jay with mae sa curried noodles and tofu, the khao soi gai with chicken or the khao soi neua with braised hanger steak. No cocktails found here, but they do have a nice selection of wine and a few stellar beers.

Pok Pok Phat Thai

Los Angeles, CA 90012

Pok Pok Phat Thai may be an unexpected contender because it's located in Chinatown. The Hoi Thawt, known as a specialty of Thai street vendors, is a gem with steamed mussels, eggs, chives, crispy broken crepe and Thai Sri Racha sauce. The Kuaytiaw is another must try with wide rice noodles, cuttlefish and egg with a choice of chicken, duck or prawns stir-fried in rendered pork fat. And a heads up, they have a DIY policy when it comes to seasoning.

Isaan Station Thai Street Food
125 N. Western Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90004
(323) 380-5126

Grilled chicken can be found in a lot of Thai dishes, but Isaan Station Thai Street Food seems to prepare it the best. The Khai yang ob oong is a customer favorite. Charcoal grilled and turmeric marinated; how could it not be a winner? Unless you really like wings, the legs or quarter section is a better choice. Either way, the meat is tender and wonderfully flavored. A side of fried rice or Tom Yum soup pairs well with anything.
