Children's Playhouse Theater
1265 N. Fairfax Ave.
Los Angeles, CA 90046

This is Los Angeles, after all and if you're going to send your kid off to camp why not one that teaches them acting? The Children's Playhouse Theater, lead by Jason Pace (creator and executive director), teaches many aspects of the performing arts (improv, character creation, sketch comedy, writing, stage and combat, scene study and acting) that kids can use not only in the industry, should they choose to pursue it, but in real life as well. Building confidence and encouraging self expression, the Children's Playhouse Theater isn't just about creating artists. They are passionate about getting their students to think outside the box with all types of educational subjects. Sounds like a win-win.

Moorpark, CA 93021

For the young animal lover in your family you might want to consider sending them off to the America's Teaching Zoo. Not only is it a zoo, which kids love, but they learn about animals and their relation to the environment. Activities include handling opportunities, art projects, and science-based projects. Fully supervised, campers have full access to the zoo and can visit the barn, wildlife theater and the zoo kitchen to observe meal preparation for the different animals. There's even an opportunity for campers to put on an animal presentation for invited family members. For the older kids there's a "Counselor in Training" program that teaches conservation and science for those who are seriously considering a future in the animal world.
