Rum is an amazing beverage. It’s sweet, it comes from tropical places and one good rum cocktail can make you feel like you’re on vacation even if you’re at home. If you’re looking for a good “vacation” drink, even if it’s a vacation away from your job at the end of the day, here are the best places to find them.

If you’re looking for rum, one thing you must know is that Eva’s has enough rums on the menu that you could try one every day for a year before you’ve exhausted the list. Two signature drinks here are the rum punch and the brown suga martini. The rum punch (pictured) is sweet and spiced with cinnamon, cloves and ginger, and garnished with a slice of fresh mango. The result is something that goes down almost too easily. The brown suga martini is really simple – just rum and lime juice in a glass rimmed with cinnamon. With just one sip, you’ll be amazed at how delicious simple can be.

When it comes to rum drinks, Don the Beachcomber is legendary. The namesake of this place – Don Beach – invented the classic Tiki cocktail, The Zombie. It was named that because of the effects it had on the first person to consume it. This cocktail is so strong that patrons are limited to only two of them. In addition to that classic, Don the Beachcomber has several other rum cocktails and an atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else in Orange County. If you’re going to drink rum cocktails, you might as well do it at a place famous for just that.

Chaparosa Grill is a very inviting place. It is colorful and warm, and it’s hard to feel anything but welcome when you walk in the door. Chaparosa has a good selection of rum cocktails on the menu, which is fitting for the relaxed atmosphere of the place. You’ll find the classic mai tai and a good selection of mojitos. You’ll also find the Laguna lizard – light and orange rums mixed with orange and pineapple juice and a dash of bitters – and the hurricane (pictured), among a few others.

The Rooftop Lounge doesn’t boast a long list of rum cocktails. However, you won’t really need a long list of rum cocktails in this setting. Take amazing views, the waves, the sun (and especially the sunset) and a delicious mojito and you’re essentially on vacation. The Rooftop specializes in mojitos (served with a piece of sugar cane) from the classic to the wild berry (pictured) and mango. You’ll find that fewer things in life are better than sipping a mojito in this bar on top of the La Casa del Camino Hotel in Laguna Beach.

Habana
2930 Bristol St.
Costa Mesa, CA 92626
(714) 556-0176

It’s not surprising that a place called Habana has a mojito available. However, that’s not the only rum cocktail you can enjoy at this place. The Buena Vista is made with limon rum, mint and lemon. A very simple, but delicious cocktail called La Tormenta is also on the menu. This is rum and ginger beer garnished with mint, and it goes down real easily – perhaps too easily. A flight of rum is also available if you’d like some rum to sip.
