The pierogi, Polish in origin, is a favorite of many. Filled with meat, cheese or potato and traditionally boiled or then fried with onions they are quite simple to make. Many countries and cultures have their own spin on how to make them. Whether they are of Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, German, Polish, Hungarian, Russian or Swedish influence, one thing they have in common is they are delectable. But if you're something of a traditionalist and are looking for the real thing, check out these five places for pierogies in Los Angeles.

Offering a menu that's vegetarian and vegan friendly that can also please the meat eaters, Mud Hen Tavern hits the perfect middle ground with their pierogies. Tender dough that is lightly pan seared stuffed with flavorful spinach and potato is a favorite of all who try them. The roasted beets and horseradish cream is the perfect side for these little gems. The only downside is there's only three to an order. That's not nearly enough for as delicious as they are.

Nobody makes a better pierogi than the country of origin, and Warszawa is one of the best polish restaurants in town. Your pierogi selection consists of four choices: cheese and potato; mushroom and cabbage; chicken and beef. The chicken pierogies come with a delectable sauce and you have the option of having them steamed or fried. A dollop of sour cream is the only side you'll need because perfection doesn't need fancy sides.
