Across the country, shops compete for coveted titles to be named the best grilled cheese. These days this simple sandwich goes beyond two pieces of bread and sliced cheeses. Grilled cheese sandwiches are oozing with creativity and include countless combinations of cheeses, vegetables, and meats and can be embraced by your favorite kind of sliced bread. Heywood is located in the trendy Silver Lake neighborhood of LA. This grilled cheese shop was recently invited to compete at the Grilled Cheese invitational and they came in fourth place. Their cheeses are imported from around the world and boy…the aroma alone is delightful. Enjoy the Italian Bleu Jeans, which is sliced mozzarella, creamy bleu cheese, fresh walnut pesto and sundried tomatoes on sourdough. The Heywood is a crowd favorite, bursting with two-year-aged English cheddar, caramelized onion confit that rests on sourdough bread. The sandwiches are of a generous size and include a delicious tomato bisque dipper and a side salad. Patrons also have the option to order a half sandwich. Vegans will appreciate that there are cheeses that they can also enjoy. The tomato bisque soup is the perfect accompaniment and has red pepper, which gives it a chunky texture. There is only one Heywood in town and it is staffed by super-friendly people.
