Nothing quite says ‘summer is here’ quite like lounging poolside, picnics and trips to the beach with a frozen drink in hand. Perhaps it’s the sound of the blender pulverizing ice cubes, the smell of coconut in the air or those little colorful umbrellas that give summer’s arrival confirmation. Whatever does it for you, here are the top five places in LA to get your frozen drink on.

La Velvet Margarita
1612 N. Cahuenga Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90028

While margaritas are a year-round cocktail, frozen margaritas just seem to taste better during the summer. The Velvet Margarita has maintained a long reputation of serving unique and delicious margaritas since it opened its doors more than a decade ago. Notable drinks on the menu are the signature frozen Velvet and Premium Velvet Margaritas (which is served in a pineapple). There are also strawberry, mango and pomegranate margaritas that pack quite a wallop.

By getting them for $1 on Tuesdays. Five0Four Hollywood has New Orleans-type food and atmosphere, happy hour from 4pm to 10:30pm and frozen drink machines where you can serve yourself. LAMILL Coffee Boutique
1636 Silver Lake Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90026
(323) 663-4441
www.lamillcoffee.com

The heat can be draining and sometimes what you really need is a cup of java to keep going through the day. Instead of grabbing one of those powder-based, mass-produced concoctions, treat yourself to something special. The Lamill Coffee Boutique has something called the blanco y negro. It’s made from cold press coffee, frozen beans and handmade vanilla bean ice cream. The prep time for this mind-blowing cup of Joe is about 18 hours. Fortunately, it only takes moments to make.

Liquid Kitty
11780 W. Pico Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90064
(310) 473-3707
www.thekitty.com

Liquid Kitty is one of those places that’s more authentic dive than hipster dive. Fortunately, while most dive bars don’t have a blender, Liquid Kitty does. It only has one frozen drink on the menu, but it’s an amazing one. The Kitty Colada is the perfect blend of coconut, rum and a little Midori added for a little extra flavor.

Frozen fun for the whole family, Short Order has some of the best custard and malts in town. Traditional chocolate, vanilla and a vanilla cookie shake are served regularly with daily specials your server will be happy to list. These shakes are the kind of thick and delicious variety you can only find in a burger joint.
