Currently, visitors have the opportunity to view LIFE: A Journey Through Time, an exhibition by Frans Lanting in cooperation with the Annenberg Foundation and the Annenberg Space for Photography. On display through March 20, 2016, LIFE is a photographic interpretation of life on Earth from the Big Bang to the present by acclaimed National Geographic photographer Frans Lanting. The exhibit features 70 images with stories about the works and an innovative timeline of life on Earth. Lanting's photographs reflect his personal journey to remote locations such as western Australia's Shark Bay and Siberia's Kamchatka Peninsula, where he captured primordial landscapes, fossils and microscopic life.

Guests start in "Elements," the first of several exhibit sections. "Elements" interprets Earth's early history highlighting the five classical elements: earth, air, fire, water and space. "Beginnings" is a look into single-celled origins of the sea. "Out of the Sea" is a view of time when life ventured ashore. "On Land" displays the period when plants and animals colonized solid ground. "Into the Air" highlights birds and flowering plants ending in the cataclysmic events that caused the demise of the dinosaurs. "Out of the Dark" portrays the rise of mammals, and the concluding chapter, "Planet of Life," envisions the "collective force" of life as a sixth element shaping our planet.

Lanting's exhibit encourages guests to visit the outdoor component, "Future of Life," which portrays present day challenges to global biodiversity caused by the impact of humans on the planet, which scientists refer to as Anthropocene 2. In addition, The LIFE exhibit and exclusive to the Annenberg Space for Photography presents an original documentary short film as well as four short videos connecting human life to nature. The film is produced by Steven Kochones, an award-winning director, and Arclight Productions.
