The weekend is here and for the folks in Orange County, the deck is stacked with plenty to go, do, and see. No matter the budget, no matter the company, there is a wealth of options that will ensure everyone returns to work and school on Monday with a feeling of accomplishment that can only come from a fulfilling weekend.

For the past 59 years, the city of Buena Park along with the Lions Club have worked develop their Silverado Days community fair into a cherished local tradition. For three days in the fall, William Peak Park is transformed into an idyllic midway complete with carnival rides, local vendors, and games galore complete with loads of stuffed animals. With a full roster of events including, a classic car show, a world amateur arm wrestling championship, a pie-eating contest, a chili cook-off, and a 5k to work up that appetite, the fun is about as wholesome as it gets. With funds going to local charities, every dollar spent at the three-day extravaganza goes to very worthy causes. The small town appeal of Buena Park gives the fair a particular charm that makes a ride on the Ferris Wheel or a game of Whack-A-Mole a fond memory.

Celebrating the rich cultural history of a holiday that dates back to the Meso-American people of North America, Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a joyous tradition that recognizes the bridge between the living and those that have passed on. A sort of living memorial, the hallmark of the holiday includes lots of vibrant, colorful art, altars, and shrines that lovingly acknowledge those that are no longer among the living. A unique mesh of dark, typically morbid imagery depicted in a radiant, almost animated way, the idea is create a sort of resurrection through the art. Las Lagunas Gallery is currently featuring work from 20 revered artists including Sara Diesel, Simona Candini, Edgar Landeros, and Kat Tatz to name a few, who have all explored their medium to bring the holiday into focus. The show will run through the month ending just before the Halloween insanity.

An agricultural haven located in the hub of Irvine, Tanaka Farms is best known for their pick your own produce excursions, but during the fall, the pumpkin reigns supreme. Far surpassing every other pumpkin patch in Southern California, Tanaka Farms gives guests the chance to explore the corn maze, ride the wagon across the 33-acre plot, or experience the pumpkin cannon. The folks at Tanaka actually have a cannon that fires off pumpkins into the air and crashing into the hills. The spectacle of watching a pumpkin fly through the air is something everyone can appreciate. In addition to the gorgeous land and being able to pick fresh produce, guests can snap photos and take in some fresh air at one of the coolest places in Orange County, all while doing something especially festive.
