TALE OF THE TAPE

Week 12: Denver Broncos At Kansas City Chiefs

Broncos
Chiefs
Seattle Seahawks v Denver Broncos
Minnesota Vikings v Kansas City Chiefs
Quarterback
Winner Peyton Manning has done everything the Broncos expected of him and more when they signed him during the offseason. He is not just the Broncos’ quarterback. He has taken over their offense and made them sharp and efficient. Manning excels at figuring out the defense’s weak points and then exploiting them fully.
It’s simply been a disastrous season for the Chiefs. It continued in the Week 11 loss to the Bengals. Head coach Romeo Crennel had seen enough of Matt Cassel and he replaced him with Brady Quinn, but that move did little to help the Chiefs get back into contention.
Offense
Winner Willis McGahee gives the Broncos a solid running attack, but he was forced out of the Broncos’ Week 11 game against the Chargers with a knee injury and he may not be available for this game. Eric Decker is a courageous receiver who can go downfield and make the tough catch. Demaryius Thomas has become an excellent deep threat and a much more consistent receiver with Manning at quarterback.
While Jamaal Charles has explosive speed, the Chiefs have not been able to play consistently on the offensive side of the ball. Nevertheless, the Chiefs will try to get Charles a few openings. Tight end Tony Moeaki is a dangerous receiver who can make the tough catch, take a big hit and hold on to the ball. Dwayne Bowe is an overrated receiver who does not always play hard.
Defense
Winner Linebacker Von Miller is one of the most ferocious tacklers in the league. He has a knack for getting around the edge and getting to the quarterback with his explosive speed. Outside linebacker Wesley Woodyard is one of the most underrated players in the league and a solid tackler. Defensive end Elvis Dumervil is another excellent pass rusher who complements Miller well.
Winner The Chiefs have a physical and hard-hitting defense. Defensive end Tamba Hali is probably the Chiefs’ best defensive player. He’s a very solid pass rusher with outstanding quickness. Linebacker Derrick Johnson is a hard-hitting tackler and safety Eric Berry has excellent range and can stay with the tight end in coverage.
Special Teams
Winner The Broncos have gotten a significant advantage from their special teams this season. Trindon Holliday is a special returner who has returned both a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown this season. Placekicker has a huge leg and is a legitimate threat on any kick up to 60 yards.
The Chiefs appeared to have the makings of excellent special teams at the start of the season, but they have disappointed in both punt and kickoff differential. Punter Dustin Colquitt had a productive game against the Bengals in Week 11, averaging 50.9 yards per kick.

The Winner Is

Seattle Seahawks v Denver Broncos
Winner Broncos
4 out of 4

The Broncos would appear to have a major advantage in this game, but if they were ever going to fall into the trap of looking past an opponent this might be the game. If that does not happen, the Broncos should find a way to win because the Chiefs make too many mistakes.
