Since the NHL switched the current playoff format in 1994 — seeding teams 1-8 in a conference format — the #8 seed has upset the #1 seed nine times, with the most recent in 2010 when the Montreal Canadiens beat the Washington Capitals in seven games. All of these series went at least six games.
