Fire Near Los Padres National Forest Triggers Camp Evacuations

Campgrounds remain evacuated as crews battle a wildfire that’s burning through dry brush around an off-road recreation area north of Los Angeles.

The historic Station Fire of 2009 burned through more than 250 square miles of land north of Los Angeles, proving to be the biggest and most deadly in a series of wildfires that summer.   Yet, nearly three years later, the U.S. Forest Service tells KNX1070 that it has still not completed a promised evaluation and report on the possibility of using its own aircraft at night to fight raging fires. Station Fire Burn Areas To Reopen In Angeles National Forest

The U.S. Forest Service Monday will re-open Angeles National Forest picnic areas, hiking trails and campgrounds closed since the Station Fire charred some 98,000 acres nearly two years ago.
