Halloween is just around the corner and the time has come for all good ghouls and goblins to go out and grab their holiday gear.

That leaves you with two questions to answer. What/who do you want to be and where do you go to find your costume? While we can’t answer the first question we can help you with the second with a list of great costume shops to go visit.

Costume Rentals

These stores have some prepackaged costumes as well as expansive costume rentals. Be prepared, and know what you want. Many rental stores only allow a few try-ons, and require hair covering for wig fittings.

If you want to win a Halloween costume contest for the most authentic looking costume Sword and Stone should be at the top of your list. How many other stores do you know that bill themselves as a full service blacksmith shop?

In addition to providing gear, props and more for film and TV studios, the shop also serves as a higher-end costume store for the general public. Not to mention that as bonus they offer a knife sharpening service at $4 per blade.

Do It Yourself

In the old days when I made my own costumes I usually started by going to the thrift stores. You can find amazing things, for extremely low prices at Good Will and Salvation Army. The National Council Jewish Women’s thift store are a bit more expensive but they have really nice things, if you’re doing a dressier costume.
