Decomposing Body Found In San Bernardino Parking Lot

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA) — Authorities Sunday say passersby located the body of a woman in San Bernardino at Del Rosa Avenue and Pumalo Street.

The body of 34-year-old Marlene Santillan was discovered wrapped in tarp and was placed in a makeshift box.

Homicide detectives arrived on scene and were investigating.

The body appeared to have been decomposing for some time, police said.

"I think I'd seen her around," said neighbor Robert Osornio. "It's pretty sad. I don't know what happened."

Neither does Santillan's family nor at this point police.

Detectives don't know how or when she died, but say from the level of decomposition she'd been dead awhile.

From Facebook posts from loved ones, we know they'd been trying to reach Santillan and hadn't heard back. Her body was found around 8 Sunday morning in the parking lot next to Adolfo Rivera's business.

"I'm not surprised," said Rivera. "There is a lot of criminal activity around."

In a message Santellan's devastated sister tells us she leaves behind three young daughters who loved her very much. The youngest just 2 months old. And even in their heartbreak the family is determined to find out who did this to their little sister.

The sister says the family has since learned that Santellan was stabbed.

Police are asking for anyone with information to give them a call.
