Good News For Mountain Lion Population After 2 Kittens Found In Mountains

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — State researchers have found two mountain lion kittens in the Santa Monica Mountain range.

They've been named them P-59 and P-60. The "P" stands for "Puma"

Their mother is P-53. She's only 2-years old and this is her first litter.

Researchers think the father might be P-12.

P-12 is known to be prolific in terms of mating with females, including his own offspring. Biologists say this highlights the need for safe passage across the 101 freeway so new mountain lions can enter the population.
