Downed Tree Unleashes Angry Bee Swarm Inside Riverside Park

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) —    A fallen tree inside a Riverside park Sunday unleashed a swarm of angry bees that went on the attack.

Good Samaritans raced to the location to see if anyone was hurt and also got stung.

KCAL 9's Cristy Fajardo spoke to people who witnessed and endured the attack.

The tree fell in Fairmount Park. Cellphone video shows people rushing to make sure no one was under the tree. But it was what was in the tree that caused the problems.

The video ends just as the bees start to attack.

In Spanish, Lola Tostado said,  "I saw all these people running. They were trying to shake off the bees,"

She says kids were trying to cover themselves with towels and blankets

Maria Gonzalez said she threw grass on the grill hoping the smoke would keep the bees away.

Several people were stung including  one young boy. Witnesses told Fajardo, the boy's uncle -- who is allergic to bees -- had a reaction and had to go to the hospital..

The uncle was the only one who reportedly needed medical assistance.

Gonzales said the man looked like he was going to faint. After a trip to the ER he returned to gather his belongings.

The man told her he was stung twice but didn't feel up to talking.

Witnesses said they were grateful the tree didn't fall on anyone. They also realized the situation with the bees could have been a whole lot worse.
