Best Things To Do This Weekend In Orange County - June 30

Running throughout the summer, the Little Saigon Night Market is gathering that has spent the last seven years delivering a healthy dose of authenticity to the Southland. Showcasing the food, art, and culture of Southeast Asian communities, this swap meet under the stars is more of a social gathering than it is a bazaar. Sure there is plenty of shopping to and strolling to get done, but the clusters of people moving through the aisles are usually soaking in the music, the crafts, and plenty of food. The social component is in the sharing that seems prevalent everywhere. A little of this and a little of that all getting passed around for everyone to try and enjoy seems to be at least part of why the event has become such a draw.

For those of you that stay current with trends, accessories like patches and pins have become pop culture statements more than ever before. The subtle fashion accoutrements have become badges of honor and for many, the collection aspect is a very passionate community. Considering that, it only makes sense that the community for artists like Artists Republic would host a gathering that showcases a healthy collection of patches and pins from some 20-plus different vendors. Nerd Pins, Hey Mama, Slushcult, Dripface, and ILOOTPAPERIE are among the names boasting their latest and greatest. These insanely cool collectibles are pocket-sized treasures and to step into a room full of them should make for an entertaining evening.

When it comes to cult films, few have the status of the Evil Dead franchise. A clever combination of both "Evil Dead" films as well as "Army of Darkness," this tribute to the comedic slasher film is a musical that less gory than it is gut-busting. Loaded with plenty of irreverent hilarity, the production has earned praise from the likes of Maxim Magazine and the New York Times. This also happens to be one of the only live theatre productions that has a splatter zone, where yes, spectators are likely to receive a light mist of fake blood. If the films are in your collection, the musical translation is a brilliant reimagining of one of the most important cult characters in the genre.

Likely best known for his appearances in the Friday film franchise, comedic veteran John Witherspoon has spent decades proving his skill in both film and television as well as the stand up stage. In fact, Witherspoon began in the 1970's, which means he has spent more time entertaining than most comics have been alive. A gifted storyteller loaded with observational humor, Witherspoon could likely make reading a phone book funny. He will be spending his holiday weekend with the folks at the Irvine Improv for a string of intimate stage shows that are guaranteed to leave ticket-holders in stitches.
Angels Vs. Mariners

Among the tangibles that pair well with the Fourth of July holiday weekend, settling up with a glove, a hot dog, and a cold beer to enjoy a baseball game just seems ideal. With the weather expected to be wonderfully sunny and comfortably cool, the conditions at the ballpark couldn't be better for an afternoon at the A. After their exciting run against the Dodgers, the Angels are flying high as their rivals the Mariners come through town for a three-game stretch.
