Driver Who Backed Car Into Library Arrested Earlier In The Day, Too

DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) — A driver suspected of DUI crashed his car into a library in Downey after he was released from jail a few hours earlier, police said Thursday.

The crash was reported shortly before 2:30 a.m. in the 1100 block of Brookshire, according to police.

Authorities say the vehicle was almost all the way inside the building when they arrived.

A preliminary investigation revealed a man backed his vehicle into the library.

The driver stayed at the scene and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Police say that just a few hours before the crash, they arrested the driver on a misdemeanor traffic warrant.

They have not identified the 25-year-old man from Downey but say he did not appear drunk when he left the station earlier in the day.

Investigators say it's unclear where he went in the hours after his releas, but somehow he ended up reversing his Volkswagen sedan with enough force to smash through the library wall.

No injuries were reported
