LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Family and friends gathered in Beverly Hills Thursday for a private memorial service to pay tribute to legendary Hollywood actress Debbie Reynolds and her daughter, “Star Wars” icon Carrie Fisher.

Among the stars attending were Meryl Streep, George Lucas, Ed Begley Jr., Ellen Barkin, Jamie Lee Curtis, Meg Ryan and Courtney Love.

The service was held at a home on Coldwater Canyon Boulevard, where Reynolds and Fisher lived.

The mother-daughter duo will be buried at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.

Fisher is believed to have been cremated, but some of her ashes are expected to be buried alongside her mother.

Fisher, 60, was best known for her role as Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” franchise. She died on Dec. 27 after suffering cardiac arrest while on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

The next day, Reynolds, her 84-year-old mother was at the home of her son, film producer Todd Fisher, helping plan her daughter’s funeral when she fell ill. Reynolds was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she died that afternoon from what her son described as a stroke.

Fisher said his mother “wanted to be with Carrie,” and his sister’s death was apparently too much for his mother to handle.

“It wasn’t that she was sitting around inconsolable – not at all,” he told Elizabeth Vargas in an interview on ABC’s “20/20,” “She simply said that she didn’t get to see Carrie come back from London. She expressed how much she loved my sister. She then said she really wanted to be with Carrie. In those precise words, and within 15 minutes from that conversation, she faded out. Within 30 minutes, she technically was gone.”

On Saturday, HBO will air its documentary, “Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.” The network originally planned to air it in the spring but moved it up after Reynolds’ death.
