DUI Suspect Leads LAPD On Fiery Pursuit

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  — A driver, possibly armed and wanted for DUI, alluded LAPD in a high-speed chase for about an hour Tuesday night.

The chase started in Sylmar at around 10 p.m. and went through Pacoima, North Hollywood Van Nuys and other areas.

Full video of the pursuit can be viewed on CBSLA's Facebook page

At one point the driver hit a cyclist in the rear wheel of the bike, the cyclist was shook up but did not appear to be hurt.

The car's rear wheel eventually came apart and the vehicle was running on its axle while a streak of sparks flowed from the rear.

"Speechless, astonishing," said CBSLA's Stu Mundel from the Sky 9 chopper.

The driver with a shredded rim actually got on the 210 freeway at speeds of 80 mph.

"Amazing this car is still going," Mundel said.

The chase finally came to end about 11:10 p.m. after the driver got stuck on a side street and crashed with a pick-up truck. The man was taken into custody without incident.
