Fallen Palm Springs Police Officers To Be Honored During Annual Blue Light Ceremony

LA QUINTA (CBSLA.com) — Fallen Palm Springs police officers Jose "Gil" Vega and Lesley Zerebny will be honored Monday at the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's annual Blue Light Ceremony, which pays tribute to fallen law enforcement officers throughout the county.

The event, which is set for 6 p.m., will be held at La Quinta City Hall.

In remembrance of fallen colleagues, law enforcement officers and their supporters will display blue lights, symbolic of peace, until Jan. 1.

Prosecutors say Vega and Zerebny's alleged killer, John Hernandez Felix, ambushed the officers in a targeted attack against law enforcement.

Felix was arrested following a standoff at his home. He faces the death penalty.

A second ceremony will be held to honor Vega and Zerebny on Dec. 12 at the County Administrative Center, located at 4080 Lemon Street in Riverside.
