Police Arrest Man In Fresno On Suspicion Of Raping Woman In Maywood
MAYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Police have arrested a man suspected of raping a woman last weekend in Maywood, authorities announced Monday.
Salvador Martinez, 28, was taken into custody at about 3:30 p.m. last Friday near Fresno and transported back to Los Angeles County.
He was being held on $1 million bail, according to Deputy Ryan Rouzan of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.
The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
Two Maywood residents told CBS2's Dave Lopez that Martinez was a fixture in the neighborhood even though, detectives said, he is homeless and has no known address.
The victim, who is between 30 and 40 years old, was alone in her home in the 3600 block of Maywood Avenue when she was attacked between midnight and 4 a.m. Sunday, according to Sgt. Betty Lascano of the Sheriff's Special Victims Bureau.
Sheriff's investigators said Martinez was recently paroled from prison for being a peeping tom and exposing himself to women.
Now, detectives are trying to figure out if Martinez is linked to four other sexual assaults in Maywood between Oct. 5 and 19.
In those four assaults, investigators were told the attacker had something covering his face.
Off camera, the father of a 14-year-old victim said he actually punched the suspect but didn't get a good look at his face before he ran off.
The victim's father said the man who sexually assaulted his daughter was wearing a long-sleeve shirt so he could not tell whether the attacker had tattoos. Martinez has tattoos.
Furthermore, the victims of the October attacks told detectives the same thing - the suspect was short. Martinez is 5 foot 8 inches tall.
