Early Voting Expands In LA County

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Early voting continued Saturday at six Los Angeles County locations.

According to County election officials, residents should be prepared for long lines and should mark their sample ballots in advance.

The locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., officials said.

Last weekend, a total of 7,756 early votes were cast, split nearly evenly between Saturday and Sunday.

The highest turnout was in North Hollywood, where 1,831 votes were cast.

Other new polling locations are located at the following addresses:

— Norwalk: Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's Administrative Office -- 12400 E. Imperial Highway

— West Covina: West Covina City Hall -- 1444 W. Garvey Ave. S

— Culver City: West Los Angeles College -- 9000 Overland Ave

— North Hollywood: North Hollywood Regional Library -- 5211 Tujunga Ave

— Torrance: El Camino College -- 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard

— Lancaster: Antelope Valley College -- 3041 W. Ave K

KCAL9's Greg Mills on Saturday spoke to some of the people braving the long lines outside the County Registrar building.

Workers inside were working 12-hour shifts to accommodate the voters.

Their boss, Dean Logan, LA County Registrar was also on hand.

"The interest is extremely high in this election," said Logan.

That's an understatement. Mills found many eager voters.

"It's my first time voting ever," said political science major Melody Pinckney.

Other people decided they didn't want to get involved in a possible crush on Tuesday.

"I have to take my kids to school early so I wanted to get it out of the way," says Lori Monnier.
