Man Severely Burned In Suspected Marijuana-Related Explosion

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A man was critically burned Thursday in a suspected marijuana-related explosion that occurred in an apartment complex in Hollywood.

Firefighters were sent around 2:45 a.m. to the 1900 block of Cahuenga Boulevard for report of a man suffering from severe burns to his face, chest and hands, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Upon their arrival, paramedics transported the man to a Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. At this time, he remains listed in critical condition.

While inside the apartment, firefighters located evidence of a makeshift lab used to extract honey oil from marijuana.

CBS2's Jasmine Viel reported the fire started in the man's bathroom, causing the door to blow out.

Arson and narcotics investigators were summoned to the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
