LAPD Chief Beck Injured In Dirt Bike Accident In Tehachapi Mountains

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles police Chief Charlie Beck was recovering Sunday after fracturing his pelvis in a dirt bike accident.

The LAPD says Beck was riding his motorcycle off-road in the Tehachapi Mountains Saturday when he fell on a rocky trail.

Beck, according to the LAPD, was able to ride his bike back to his truck and was treated at a hospital.

"I want to thank everyone for their well-wishes as I recuperate from my recent motorcycle mishap," he said. "As always, I am in constant contact with my LAPD command staff and will be working diligently while I recuperate to continue leading the men and women of the LAPD."

Beck may require surgery, but doctors say he is expected to return to the office within the next week.

Beck, according to the LAPD, has been a competitive off-road motorcycle rider for four decades.
