Possible Street Racing Blamed For Deadly Crash In Upland
UPLAND (CBSLA.com) — A memorial was growing for Geoffrey Gee Wednesday night at South Euclid Avenue and East 8th Street in Upland where he was killed during an alleged street race.
The impact was so hard his car wrapped around a tree and the engine flew out of it. Investigators said the driver may have been going 40 miles per hour over the speed limit in a Super Sport Chevy racing a black Camaro.
David Cutting was working when he saw the car on its side flying down Euclid.
"It was absolutely bizarre watching something going that fast and sideways," Cutting said.
Friends say Gee was in his twenties and was a car club enthusiast with a taste for speed.
"Yeah he would always be like: 'who wants to race me'?" Ricardo Estanislao said.
On social media, Gee posted photos of his fairly new car and videos of him reving the engine.
