Firefighters Rescue More Than 200 Animals From Burning Pet Store

LENNOX (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters Tuesday extinguished a blaze that tore through a pet store, killing dozens of animals in Lennox.

According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the fire broke out shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the 4400 block of Lennox Boulevard.

Upon their arrival, crews located heavy smoke and flames billowing from the roof of Pet Club.

CBS2's Kara Finnstrom reported firefighters worked to rescue bunnies, birds, chinchillas, and reptiles trapped inside cages from the burning building.

Crews were able to extinguish the blaze within a half hour.

Investigators believe some form of electrical problem sparked the flames.

The incident remains under investigation.
