Police Respond To Erroneous Report Of Shots Fired As Gunman Tries To Rob Pharmacy In Porter Ranch

PORTER RANCH (CBSLA.com)  —   Officials said there were tense moments Thursday evening inside a pharmacy in Porter Ranch when a gunman came into the store and tried to rob the place.

Authorities said the gunman came into the pharmacy located at Tampa Avenue and Rinaldi Street. KCAL9's Rachel Kim reported from the scene.

She said the robbery happened in a busy place, and at a busy time.

Hours later, investigators still had the area taped off looking for clues.

The gunman is still at large, she reported.

Police were mostly tight-lipped but she said officers originally were responding to a "shots fired" call.

There turned out to be no shots fired or any reports of injuries.

Employees sat outside grateful that no one was hurt. They consoled each other.

It is unclear what was taken -- money, or medication or both -- according to the LAPD.

They did say the suspect was in his 20s, wearing a black bandana, dark clothing and got away in what is believed to be an older gray, two-door Mazda with paper plates.

Anyone with information is asked to call the LAPD.
