Pasadena Man, 30, Charged With Attacking Son's Baseball Coach With Bat

PASADENA (CBSLA.com)  — The LA District Attorney's office has formally charged a Pasadena man with assaulting his son's baseball coach with a bat.

Miguel Ángel Mejía, 30, faces one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Officials said the attack happened during a game Tuesday.

Mejía is charged with assaulting the victim after he benched the defendant's son during a game at Villa Park in Pasadena, the DA's office said.

The defendant allegedly swung the bat at the coach before other parents intervened to prevent further assault, prosecutors added.

Arraignment was set for Thursday in the Pasadena branch of the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Mejía faces faces a possible maximum sentence of four years in state prison if convicted as charged.

The DA said the case remains under investigation by the Pasadena Police Department.
