LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck swore in a new class of officers Thursday — a group of 30 teenagers battling cancer.
The teenagers, brought to Los Angeles from nine states by the non-profit Sunshine Kids organization, took their oath and then had some fun.
After a swearing-in ceremony in the presence of 75 active and reserve officers, the new officers were taken by police escort to Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, where they took in a screening of TNT cop drama “Major Crimes.” The show’s star, G.W. Bailey, was also on-hand to meet the kids.
It was the highlight of a week-long trip that will not soon be forgotten.
“It’s amazing here,” one of the teens told KCAL9’s Dave Lopez. “I do not want this week to end.”
