Sophisticated Mail Thieves Target Homes In San Fernando Valley

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Police Thursday warned the public of sophisticated mail thieves who are targeting homes in the San Fernando Valley.

Surveillance video captured two crooks stealing a large package from a home located near Laurel Grove and Oxnard Street in North Hollywood.

In the video, a green pickup truck is seen scouting homes for packages in the neighborhood.

Minutes later, a large white van pulls down a driveway and two bold crooks jump out to carry out the heist.

Police said the stolen contents were worth $1,000.

License plates on the truck were covered, which suggests the suspects believed the home may have had surveillance cameras set up, according to police.

Detectives do not suspect the home was targeted by chance.

Authorities urged the public to consider taking the following shipping measures to protect themselves against theft:

— Schedule deliveries for a time when you will be home to accept the package

— Ship items to a neighbor who will be home when the item is delivered

— Add a signature requirement upon delivery

— Deliver your purchases to a locker for safe storage until you are able to pick up the package

Anyone who may recognize the suspects seen in this video should contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (818) 754-8377.
