Republican VP Candidate Mike Pence Compares Trump, Reagan

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence was in Southern California Wednesday and likened Donald Trump to conservative icon Ronald Reagan.

Speaking at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Pence depicted the billionaire businessman as a fitting heir to the Reagan legacy.

He says Trump wants to build a stronger military, cut taxes and reduce regulation, foundation blocks of the Reagan agenda.

Pence says truth and toughness are common denominators that bind the 40th president and the man who wants to become the nation's 45th.

He added that Trump shares Reagan's view that America needs to be strong for the world to be safe, and they also have similar views on appointing conservative justices to the Supreme Court.

Trump's running mate is scheduled to attend a 4:30 p.m. fundraiser in Newport Beach, with attendees making a minimum contribution of $2,700 per person.

Pence is expected to be in Southern California for two days.
