Elderly Man Accused Of Smashing Into Several Pedestrians, Parked Cars In Irvine

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) —  The Irvine Police Department said an elderly driver slammed into several pedestrians and some parked cars at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre Saturday evening.

The incident occurred just after 6:45 p.m., according to the Irvine Police Department.

The Orange County Fire Authority also responded to the location  — 8808 Irvine Center Drive.

Authorities said the man was driving near the front entrance, struck a fence, another vehicle and some pedestrians.

The man’s vehicle then struck a parked, unoccupied police vehicle.

The police car was pushed onto the grass area near the box office — where several people were picnicking — and that vehicle struck  several more people, officials said.

OCFA treated a total of nine patients including four people considered seriously hurt. It was unclear if the driver sustained any injuries.

The Irvine Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating.
