Refugio State Beach Closed After Shark Bite

SANTA BARBARA (CBSLA.com) — Refugio State Beach could reopen later Friday after a shark reportedly bit a swimmer.

Authorities say a man who was free-diving and spearfishing Thursday was bitten on a foot.

His Go-Pro video shows the shark was probably a great white, 6-8 feet long.

The man, whose name was not released by officials, is expected to be OK.

  1. Hope he was not free diving by himself. Although Whites are unusual there can be plenty of Tiger sharks and if you’re wearing a black wetsuit you can be mistaken for a yummy seal. Refugio (Pronounced Reh-foo-hee-oh for you newspeople) is generally safe but best to buy adhesive fluorescent yellow tape if you do have a black wetsuit, cheaper than buying a new one.
