With Minutes To Spare In A Wildfire, Whose Got The Animals?

VICTORVILLE (CBSLA.com) — When the Blue Cut fire tore through homes Tuesday, it wasn't just the people who had to evacuate.

Pigs, goats, horses, turkeys and other different types of animals were brought to Victorville Fairgrounds in a hurry by San Bernardino County Animal Control and volunteers.

The agency and good Samaritans are a huge relief to animal owners trying to save their homes and own lives.

"They've got other things to think about so we're here to take the animals, maintain the animals, and take at least something off their mind." Greg Beck said.

Animal control and volunteers had just cleaned up the stalls last week after housing animals during the Pilot Fire so they say they were ready to do it again.

Horse owner Abel Flores was desperately looking for his horse Wrangler that he thought was brought to the fairgrounds from Phelan.

"We were afraid that the smoke would hurt his lungs so we had him transported here for safety," Flores said.

Without having found his horse, Flores held back tears and says he won't stop looking.

"A home can be replaced but not an animal that you love."
