Report: 'Picket Fences' Star Fyvush Finkel Dies At 93

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)  —  The New York Times is reporting that actor Fyvush Finkel, best known to TV audiences as a star of the 90s-era CBS series "Picket Fences," has died.

The Brooklyn-born Finkel was 93.

The Times says the popular Emmy-winning actor died at his home in Manhattan.

He appeared on "Picket Fences" (a David E. Kelly drama about a small town where bizarre crimes happened) as self-righteous lawyer Douglas Wambaugh from 1992-1996. He liked to joke that his big break came when he was 70.

His son, Ian,  told the newspaper that his father had been having heart trouble for many months.

Before starring on the small screen, Finkel carved out a career in Yiddish theater -- starting on stage before he was 10-years-old. He also appeared in the road company of "Fiddler on the Roof" for 12 years.

Finkel's other TV credits included "Kojak," "Chicago Hope," "Blue Bloods," "Boston Public," and "Fantasy Island."

According to his IMDB.com profile, Finkel was married in 1947 until his wife's death in 2008. He is survived by two sons, Ian, a musical arranger, and Elliot, a concert pianist.
