Father Of Orlando Gunman, Former SoCal Afghan TV Host Spotted At Clinton Rally

CANOGA PARK (CBSLA.com) — The father of Orlando mass shooter Omar Mateen and former Southland political TV host Seddique Mateen was spotted Monday night at a Hillary Clinton rally.

Mateen, whose son Omar Mateen allegedly killed 49 people in at the Pulse nightclub in June, attended the rally in Kissimmee, just miles from where the shooting occurred, according to a local NBC affiliate and multiple reports on social media.

Mateen, who regularly traveled to Canoga Park to host a politics show on an Afghanistan TV network, later gave a brief interview with a local station WPTV about his support for Clinton, saying, "Hillary Clinton is good for United States versus Donald Trump, who has no solutions."

The Clinton campaign later released a statement to local reporters saying Mateen was not invited to the event.

According to CBS News, Mateen is a supporter of the Afghan Taliban and has voiced anti-American views even as he condemned the killings by his son in Orlando.

He later clarified comments he made in a video saying "God will punish those involved in homosexuality", telling CBS News it's "not an issue that humans should deal with."
