ACEing Autism Teams Up With Tennis Community To Raise Awareness, Funds For Good Cause

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — It's time to serve up some fun with ACEing Autism.

The nonprofit, play-based program teamed up with the tennis community to raise awareness and some money for a very good cause.

"Getting kids with autism to interact with each other, learn new social skills and get some exercise on the tennis court," said Richard Spurling, Founder & CEO ACEing Autism.

One of the greatest tennis legends ever, Pam Shriver, hit the court to lend her incredible skills to some of the children.

Her nephew is on the spectrum and she knows just how important it is to encourage these youngsters to stay active, and grow their skills.

"It's just a great way to further connect and to see inside that very special brain of the child on the spectrum," Shriver said.

But the real stars of the program are, of course, the kids like Asher Major.

The 13-year-old was more than willing to step right into the spotlight to welcome the crowds and kick off the event.

His mom Suzette says there really aren't many programs like ACEing Autism that encourage children to get involved in sports while growing their confidence.

"He's more confident at school and outside of the community," she told KCAL9's Adrianna Weingold.

Ulises Gonzalez has been playing for 3 years with ACEing Autism.

He and his family say it's an excellent way to make friends, get a little exercise, and work on motor skills.

"Just like the feel of it, the feel of hitting the ball, the feel of playing with other people. It just feels amazing to me," he said.

ACEing Autism is always looking for donations. To learn more, click here.
