San Bernardino Brush Fire Spreads To Super 8 Motel

SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Two buildings belonging to a Super 8 Motel were engulfed in flames Thursday night in San Bernardino.

The three-alarm blaze started around 10 p.m. as a brush fire near the 10 Freeway that spread to nearby palm trees before igniting the structures off Hospitality Lane.

Two vehicles were fully engulfed in flames.

Stu Mundel, who was flying overhead in Sky 9, reported that all of the guests were evacuated. Dozens grabbed their belongings and rushed out of the motel as quickly as they could.

About 60 firefighters were on-scene tackling the blaze from rooftops, as well as from the ground.

The blaze spread at a rapid rate, damaging at least 32 of the rooms at the motel.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within 90 minutes.

One firefighter sustained a minor injury during overhaul operations.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
