UC Irvine To Host Rams 2016 Training Camp

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The UC Irvine and the Los Angeles Rams have agreed to terms allowing the city's newest sports team to host its 2016 training camp on their campus.

Per contract agreements, the Rams will be allowed to use the school's facilities for three years with a renewal option.

"We look forward to training at UCI in preparation for the 2016 season," said Rams head coach Jeff Fisher. "Their facilities are top-notch, and we're excited to welcome our fans to their campus as we gear up for the start of the season."

Fans will be allowed to watch the team practice for free on UCI's Crawford Field on a variety of days throughout the summer.

Chancellor Howard Gillman said, "We're proud to welcome the Rams back to Southern California, where they belong."

This wouldn't be the first time the Rams practiced in Orange County: UCI hosted them back in 1990 to 1992 and also once more in 1994.

"This is an exciting time for NFL fans, and we'll do everything we can to ensure that this is a great experience for everyone involved," said Mike Izzi, UCI athletic director. "We welcome the Rams back, and although UCI doesn't have a football team, we take great pride in our facilities and our athletic accomplishments."

First overall pick Jared Goff and the rest of the rookies will begin reporting to camp on July 26, and then the remainder of the team on July 29.  Fans will be able to watch the team's first public practice on Saturday July 30 starting at 3:30 p.m.

Fans hoping to attend were urged to get there early because the gates will open 90 minutes prior to each practice, and players will be out there signing autographs after the open practices.
