Man Arrested Following Overnight Standoff At Whittier Home
WHITTIER (CBSLA.com) — A 19-year-old man was arrested in unincorporated South Whittier Heights Friday after a standoff with authorities that lasted more than three hours.
Authorities received reports at about 10 p.m. Thursday of a dispute at a home in the 1300 block of Rainier Avenue, east of the Santa Ana (5) Freeway, Los Angeles County sheriff's Sgt. Rene Garcia said.
The suspect was threatening a relative with a gun, Garcia said. When police arrived, the suspect barricaded himself inside the home.
A crisis negotiation team was sent to the scene, and the suspect surrendered to authorities at about 1:30 a.m. Friday, Garcia said. No injuries were reported.
The suspect, who is described as a Whittier resident, was booked into the Norwalk station jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Garcia said.
