Permits Could Soon Be Required For Hollywood Boulevard Performers

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles City Council Wednesday requested for regulations to be created to limit the number of costumed street performers allowed along Hollywood Boulevard.

Under the requested legislation, street performers would need to obtain a permit from Los Angeles police each day.

Council members have requested for the number of permits to be set to 20.

The passes would apply to the sidewalks on either side of Hollywood Boulevard, between Highland Avenue and Orange Drive.

The request was filed after police and city officials expressed concern over aggressive sales tactics and activities on the tourist-filled street.

One-fifth of visitors to the area reported "unsatisfactory" experiences with performers and other vendors along the street due to "aggressive and rude" behaviors, according to police.

Recent altercations between street performers have also raised concerns for public safety in the area.

The block, which attracts millions of tourists and visitors each year, includes the Walk of Fame, TCL Chinese Theatres and Madame Tussauds Hollywood wax museum.
