Gunman Wanted In Connection With Deadly Redondo Beach Shooting

REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police Friday searched for a gunman who fatally shot an 18-year-old man and wounded another during an altercation in the South Bay area.

According to the Redondo Beach Police Department, the shooting unfolded around 4:00 p.m. Thursday near an Arco Gas Station located at the intersection of Inglewood and Marine avenues.

Upon their arrival, witnesses told authorities two men were involved in a confrontation in the intersection.

When a third man became involved in the conflict, the shooter pulled out a handgun and opened fire on both men.

Paramedics rushed one of the victims to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. He underwent surgery and is expected to survive his injuries.

The other man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials have identified the victim as Mike Cortez.

Detectives described the gunman as a man who is believed to be between the ages of 18 to 20-years-old who has a goatee and a thin build. He was last seen wearing camouflage shorts and a black shirt.

According to police, the gunman fled from the scene on a skateboard, which was recovered from a gutter in the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
